RV Service Contracts: What They Cover & Who They Benefit

  All articlesPosted on RV Insurance

RV service contracts can help cover the costs of certain repairs or replacement parts when a manufacturer’s warranty expires. Service contracts can protect against the failure of parts that aren’t covered under traditional insurance policies. Depending on how often you use your RV, a service contract can be critical in ensuring that you have less out of pocket expenses if a problem arises.

With RVs, service contracts can help to cover:
  • Mechanical/electrical systems
  • Appliances
  • Slideouts
  • Leveling systems
  • Air conditioning units

There are two specific types of RV service contracts: exclusionary and inclusionary.

Exclusionary

This policy is the best type of RV warranty that you can get; it offers the highest level of coverage for your RV. This policy covers every mechanical unit on your RV unless otherwise stated in the “what is not covered” section in your policy.

Inclusionary (Listed Component)

This policy is considered to be a lower level of coverage; the only items specifically listed will be covered in your contract. Though this policy is less expensive it covers quite a bit less.

Remember RV service contracts are different than RV insurance policies. Items covered in insurance policies are not always covered in service contracts. Think of an RV service contract as extra coverage for your RV. When purchasing an RV service contract it is important to read the contract thoroughly and ask plenty of questions to ensure that you know exactly what your contract does and doesn’t cover. Ultimately getting a service contract comes down to whether or not you want some extra peace of mind, and to help ensure that any unforeseen issues don’t empty your wallet.
