  All articlesPosted on RV Safety

Icy roads are a very dangerous part of the winter season. Here are some safety tips to ensure that your winter RV travels go smoothly:

Check Your Tires

It is important to make sure that you buy seasonally appropriate tires for your RV. For extra protection, consider putting on tire chains as well.

Gear Up

Pack an emergency kit that includes a traction aid, flares, and reflective triangles. Make sure to also pack extra non-perishable food, bottled water, warm clothes, blankets, and a flashlight with fresh batteries. Hopefully, you won’t get sent into the ditch, but it’s good to be prepared for the possibility.

Drive Cautiously

Driving at a slow and steady pace is very important when driving on ice. Remember to break early before stops and turns to avoid sliding off the road or into another vehicle.

Change Your Plans

Ultimately the easiest way to be safe when it comes to icy roads is to not be on them at all. If you’re not completely comfortable with driving on icy roads or you find yourself white-knuckling your grip on the steering wheel, it might be time to decide on changing your plans.

Knowing how to handle your RV on icy roads is very important; consider these tips to help ensure your safety (as well as the safety of other drivers) as you travel this winter.
